Committees and Descriptions

PTO Services

Membership: (Throughout year) Assists the 2nd Vice President with the PTO membership drive, and collects dues and helps distribute directories in the Fall. Works throughout the rest of the year building our membership and speaking to other parents on a casual level regarding the Winstead PTO and encouraging their participation.

Welcome/New Parent Mentor: (Throughout year) Greets families new to Winstead, and acts as a Mentor to a family to provide resources and support. Collects forms, newsletters, etc. that have been sent out during the school year to pass on to new families that register after school starts.

Hospitality: (Throughout year) Provides refreshments for PTO and special school functions.

Back-to-School Packs: (End of school year & week before school starts in August) This committee is chaired by the incoming PTO President, and requires help in collecting pre-order forms before the school year ends. Primary committee work is done the following August when the packs have to be sorted, labeled, and delivered to the classrooms of the children who purchased them.

Gardening/Grounds: (Throughout year) Enhances the outdoor environment of the school, from planning to planting. Also, cleans up weeds and trash, and mulches.

Lost & Found: (Throughout year) Someone to organize the Lost & Found area every two weeks.

Student Directory: (Fall) Organizes student information and publishes student directory. Coordinates "new student" updates as needed.

Trash for Cash: (Throughout year) Coordinates the collection and redemption of Box Tops, food labels, ink cartridges, and other items to be redeemed for educational equipment. Also, oversees local grocery store programs. This committee will require a co-chair to oversee the sale of cookie dough and wrapping papers as an on-going program via the internet.

School Store: (Throughout year) Organizes, orders and sales spirit and school related items at the school store. Volunteers work various shifts in the store.

Innisbrook: Coordinates the sale and distribution of wrapping paper and gifts for a one time fund-raising effort in the Fall.  There will be sales via the internet as an on-going program throughout the school year, but there is minimal work to be done for this.

Social/Recreational Programs

Back-to-School Social: (August-before school starts) Run primarily by the PTO Executive Board, however help is needed in setting up, serving, and greeting.

Dads & Doughnuts: We need Moms to organize and staff a doughnut breakfast for children with their Dad or important male in their life. This will be held over a two day period. Families with the last name A – M will attend one morning, and families with the last name N – Z will attend on the other.

Moms & Muffins: We need Dads to organize and staff a muffin breakfast for children with their Mom or important female in their life. This will be held over a two day period. Families with the last name A – M will attend on one morning, and families with the last name N – Z will attend on the other.

Grandparents Day Breakfast: We need parents to organize and staff a continental breakfast for children and their grandparents centered around Grandparents Day.

Eat, Meet & Greet: (Throughout year) Organizes family night out at Check E. Cheese every other month, and bowling quarterly.

Boo Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast: Organizes a breakfast for Kindergarten parents after they drop their babies off for their first full day of school. Volunteers needed to help serve.

Newcomer’s Coffee: (August) Someone to plan and host a coffee for all of the new families at Winstead. To be held within the first two weeks of school.

Communications

Directory Sign – Outdoor: (Throughout year) Change information on the outdoor directory sign as needed.

Directory Sign – Indoor: (Throughout year) Change information on the indoor directory sign in the Lobby as needed.

Newsletter: (Monthly) Coordinate articles and print newsletter monthly. Distribute to classrooms.

Web-Site Administrator: (Throughout year) Updates newly established PTO website with information provided by the Executive Board and various committees.

Ways & Means

Book Fair: Chairperson will work with the Librarian for planning/setup.  Members will work with the Librarian the week of the fair in the library.  Volunteers will be able to sign up for specific days and times.

Wreath Raffle: (On same day as Book Fair) Chairperson will work with room moms to have each class donate a wreath to be raffled off to raise money for the Library.  Volunteers will help collect & display wreaths, sell tickets and supervise the process until the raffle is complete and wreaths are distributed to the winners.

Wildcat Walk: Assists the Fundraising Chairperson in organizing and scheduling volunteers to publicize, run the t-shirt design contest, run the pep rally, set up and work the day of the Walk-a-thon, and to collect and count donations, and distribute prizes.

Kroger Cards: Distribute cards to parents to use when they shop at Kroger.  Winstead receives a percentage of all money spent.

Grant Writing: (Throughout year) If you have a background in grant writing, or have any knowledge in this area, then we need you!

Corporate Sponsors: (Throughout year, but primarily in the Fall) Work directly with our PTO Development Director to solicit corporate donations and sponsorships for various events.

Red Cross Club: The children will be asked to bring in their pennies and a canned good for needy families. All money raised will be given to families in need during the holiday season.

Volunteer Programs

Volunteer Coordinator: (Throughout year) A team leader is needed to organize one-time events such as vision and hearing screening, picture day, Ident-a-kid pictures, and Kindergarten registration. Volunteers needed to work these one-time events. Sign up here, and when the time comes the chairman will call to see if you’re available. Chairman will also be responsible for inputting all volunteer sing-up information into our new volunteer database.

Room Mom Coordinator: (Throughout year) Chairman assists with communications to other Room Moms regarding school related issues as needed. (Each teacher determines their own Room Mom.)

Art Support: (Throughout year) Assists the Art teacher by hanging art work throughout the school, helps with the art fund-raiser that is done in the Fall, and helps with the art show at the end of the year.

Music Support: (Throughout year) Assists the Music teacher with class programs and other music related projects and events.

After-School Clubs: (Throughout year) Work with students in clubs they have signed up to participate in once per week after school.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation: A wonderful ritual to show our teachers and staff how much we love them. Help plan and organize a fun Cinco de Mayo week of events.

Talent Show: Organize try-outs, decorating, production and clean-up of the Talent Show.

Geography Bee: Organize contest where students compete to find out who knows the most Geography.

Spelling Bee:  Organize contest where students compete to find out who is the best speller.

Dad’s Week: Someone needed to organize and set up a schedule for one week when only Dad’s can volunteer at school. Dad’s needed to work during that week.

Field Day: Chairman sends out order forms for pre-sold t-shirts, orders shirts, and distributes them. Also, send out volunteer forms. The P.E. teachers handle the scheduling of volunteers and the setting up of Field Day activities.

Recycling: (Throughout year) Coordinate recycling efforts for our school, and provide information for monthly newsletter.

Library Team: (Throughout year) Assists the librarians in library maintenance, library family nights, scheduling and working special guest reader days, birthday book campaigns, etc. as the library needs are dictated.

Special Ed. Committee: (Throughout year) This department is looking for a person to serve as the department “Room Parent” and to help out on an, as needed, basis. Assists the department in daily tasks, fundraisers, special projects, communication, and help in after school club involvement.

Cafeteria: (Throughout year) Work a shift in the cafeteria to help the children during lunch.
